It provokes one of my favouite bits of dialogue (in a movie that's full of them) - "Hail, Mark Antony!" "Hail - snow, rain, thunder, lighting - the lot!"

And Asterix in Brtiain is not pre-Roman, as it shows the Roman conquest.Tony Keenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07125792825206480340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-28517932795492672542012-10-17T11:24:32.683+01:002012-10-17T11:24:32.683+01:00Depending on how closely they followed the book, M...Depending on how closely they followed the book, Merlin and the Crystal Cave probably had Romans in Brittany. IIRC, all that stuff with Ambrosius takes place there, rather than in Britain itself. In a similar vein, I would suggest Jack Whyte's Arthurian series, the first of which is The Skystone and is set in a very Roman Britain of the late 4th century, starting with the massive Pictish invasion over the wall. He starts with Merlin's grandparents or so.

I was also going to suggest Asterix in Britain, but realized that it is set in the pre-Roman period. Of course, it isn't very accurate what with everything stopping at 4 o'clock for hot water (tea not having been introduced yet).DemetriosXnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-37397324013558747682012-10-17T01:54:10.550+01:002012-10-17T01:54:10.550+01:00I hadn't heard of "Merlin and the Crystal...I hadn't heard of "Merlin and the Crystal Cave". Is it based on Mary Stewart's Merlin books? I've only seen the first two series of "Merlin" and Gaius seems to be just a random name. Rome doesn't get a mention that I can recall, but then we don't get much of Gaius's back story at all.RWMGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04271851970303022440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-3036409410679284452012-10-16T21:44:48.896+01:002012-10-16T21:44:48.896+01:00What?
