I was a bit surprised myself. I also thought Thorin was a little too young, but generally I liked what they did with the dwarves.

I finally got to see it in English last night and overall I was quite impressed. I'm looking forward to the rest.DemetriosXnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-15446699858894375912012-12-18T12:45:02.629+00:002012-12-18T12:45:02.629+00:00I thought I remembered Balin being younger than th...I thought I remembered Balin being younger than that!Juliettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203399623895589924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-42763899449352620032012-12-18T12:29:07.299+00:002012-12-18T12:29:07.299+00:00Gimli is mentioned by Gloin in the beginning of th...Gimli is mentioned by Gloin in the beginning of the movie. I had a moment during the Galadriel and Gandalf scene where I suddenly felt annoyed and sad about how there are no beautiful, noble old women in any fantasy I can think of. Old men can be scary or beautiful. Young women can be scary or beautiful. But old women? I realized it's the same in my own evolving fantasy stories, and it just felt weak. One of those things that fantasy needs to move past!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-64165195988715940862012-12-16T22:05:39.580+00:002012-12-16T22:05:39.580+00:00Well, this is very true! (Except Bofur). I thought we'd see more of Gloin at least, as in 'Gimli son of,' and I seem to remember liking Dori in the book (who did notice Bilbo disappearing I think)Juliettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203399623895589924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-78957385197213403582012-12-16T21:55:14.942+00:002012-12-16T21:55:14.942+00:00That's what I thought. So it's not so much that they gave them more of a personality in the movie... all three have the same thing in common (which I will complete on your FB page so as not to spoil).CrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-51153911886618485782012-12-16T21:48:37.753+00:002012-12-16T21:48:37.753+00:00Only 3 of them die in The Hobbit...Only 3 of them die in The Hobbit...Juliettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203399623895589924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-49355223534551550312012-12-16T21:38:08.159+00:002012-12-16T21:38:08.159+00:00Wow! You actually managed to pull off a Classical connection, bravo! :o)

My opinion is pretty much the same as yours (and you've already read it). I didn't read The Hobbit until I was 16 (birthday present from my grandmother, before that I had this weird childhood memory from a cartoon and I thought it was a horror story!), so at that age I had absolutely no problems following the intricacies of the tale.

I only remember 3 dwarves dying... I'm pretty sure one of those with more personality survives 'cause I seem to remember Gimli referencing him in the Mines of Moria. Am re-reading the book now so I'll get a refresher. I highly suspect once finished I'll probably be sucked into Middle Earth and dive into The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion and... yikes! Once started I can never get enough of Tolkien! :pCrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-17579454684608284422012-12-16T21:37:41.479+00:002012-12-16T21:37:41.479+00:00I didn't notice it, but there's a possibil...I didn't notice it, but there's a possibility that's cause it was in 24fps! I saw it in IMAX 3D, which was awesome (though the glasses pinched my ear something chronic!)Juliettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203399623895589924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5730513615909994019.post-62601287511281121472012-12-16T21:27:01.242+00:002012-12-16T21:27:01.242+00:00Excellent thoughts on the film, Juliette!

Had a bit of a technical thing about the frames per second element of the film, that's all. William Kendallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00331324250821836822noreply@blogger.com
